Alberta Health Services (AHS) offers a training program for people to become certified Health Care Aides in rural and remote areas. Students in the program will have the opportunity to ‘earn’ as they work towards completing their Health Care Aide certification from a post-secondary college. Throughout the program, students will receive support, training and mentorship from a professional team of nurses.
The program’s length is approximately 8-12 months and costs of tuition are covered by AHS. To be accepted into the program, people will need to commit to working in the position for 24 months at the time of hire,After certification, the salary can reach $21.43 to $25.52 per hour, plus other benefits.
What do Health Care Aides do?
HCAs are valuable members of healthcare teams, which include nurses, physicians and other professionals.
They spend much of their time working directly with patients, helping them with daily activities that are important to their health and well-being.
HCAs work in many different settings and with people of all ages.

Where is the training provided?
Training is provided virtually and in-person at AHS sites. Students in the program may need to complete assignments outside of their work hours.
Who can apply?
People who are proficient in English and living in rural and remote areas can apply. Applicants do not need a certification or prior healthcare experience to apply.
